I am a professor of history at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall — The Sam B. Hall Jr. Professor of History, Chair of the Department of History and Political Science, and Dean of the School of Humanities. My teaching areas lately are World Civilizations, Medieval and Early Modern Europe, British Studies, and Chinese History and Culture.

A second-generation native Californian, I am an adopted Texan with some Texan roots and a Texas wife!  My schooling was mostly at Lompoc and Oxnard, California, with brief stops at Parsippany and Wanaque, New Jersey, before I started the bachelor’s at Baylor in Waco.  In 1979 I completed a Master of Divinity at Southern Seminary in Louisville, and in 1990 the Ph.D. at the University of North Texas.  I have taught at ETBU since January 1991.  Our family includes two married children and two grandchildren, a grand-dog in L.A., and, at home, Lucille McGillicatty – just “Lucy” the cat.
